What this blog is about.

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my blog. My topic is going to answer the question "How do you build a lodge, with self-sufficient power, on crown land, with minimal impact on the environment?" If any one can help me out with some info, that would be great. Thanks.

  1. Hi Reece.
You may want to contact Sydney Johnsen who is teaching the Tourism and Sustainable Development course to see if any of her students are researching a similar topic. That way you could work together. I am giving a LEED lecture to her students on Wednesday from 12:30-1:20 in OM 2761 if you would like to come along.

  2. If you are looking for minimum impact on the land you could look into the use of bioswales as a resource for removing storm water from your site. Take a look at a few of my resources posted on my blog to see if you are interested at all. I will try to keep them update, but if there is something more specific you need I might be able to help you.

Here is a link that you can look at to get a better idea of what it is if you are curios.

  3. Another idea for minimum impact on the land could be looking into Accoya Wood. It looks like amazing material to be used in green building.

  4. Hey, jill thanks for the recomedation but I'm only putting one structure on the site so I don't think I'm going to have to look in to removing pollutants from run off to the extent on using bioswales. thanks though.

  5. Hey Dale, Too bad I didn't see your post sooner. But any way I know one of the students in that class and she is doing something similar. So I will be talking to her about it. Thanks.

  9. Hey man just an idea of what kind of demand there is for cabins in Wells Gray. A bunch of friends of mine go on a kayak trip every year to Clearwater Lake and Azure Lake. They are connected and very popular canoe lakes that are 22 km long each. They go to Murtle Lake too. Which has like 100 km of shoreline. There is marine camping along the lakes, but no cabins. When I asked them about it they got pretty excited about the idea of cabins. And said that the other campers at the marine sites always talk about it. I guess its hard to get a spot, and halfway through the trip some people wouldn't mind a good cabin for one night. Sounds like it would be a good area but not sure if its possible. And you mentioned to me that you were thinking about using the Clearwater area.
